Lab
Institutional Imagination Lab
For turning artistic situations into future structures, awards, curricula, collaborations, and public experiments.
Institutional Problem
The Institutional Imagination Lab develops the future institutional forms that can grow from NVI’s works, labs, protocols, and research.
Research Focus
The Institutional Imagination Lab asks what kinds of institutions are needed when existing systems cannot hold complex value.
It works across the full ecology of NVI. It studies how an artwork can become a method, how a method can become a protocol, how a protocol can become a public experiment, how a public experiment can become a curriculum, award, fellowship, research partnership, or new institutional model.
This is the lab where NVI’s long-term forms are developed: commissioned labs, workshops, research partnerships, publications, fellowships, future academies, and value-based institutional prototypes.
