A Conversation on Value and Art
An interview with Jingyi Wang on the conceptual ground and bidding currencies of Post Capitalistic Auction.
In this interview, conducted for the University of Bergen's humanities journal Replikk in the months around the Bergen premiere of Post Capitalistic Auction, Jingyi Wang gives the first extended public account of the auction's four bidding currencies: money, opportunity, understanding, and exchange. The conversation moves from why money must remain in the mechanism as a reference point, through Bourdieu's notions of economic and social capital, to questions of ownership and access in a digitised art world, and to why PCA is designed as a real auction with binding bids rather than a simulation. It documents the project's conceptual ground at the moment of its first realisation.
